USA, MI: The Ramshackle Brewing Company gets approval for its microbrewer license
The Ramshackle Brewing Company is one step closer to its grand opening, The Hillsdale Daily News reported.
On June 21, Joe Keselring and Zack and Jessy Bigelow, the majority owners of the company, were on hand for the Jonesville City Council meeting with a recommendation from City Manager Jeff Gray for the council to approve a microbrewer license for the business.
The formality was needed for the trio to submit an application to the Michigan Liquor Control Commission for a microbrewer license.
A slight issue arose with the application as certain investors in the business were promised anonymity, due to their statuses within the community, which limited investor information included in the application to the primary managers in the company, being Keselring and the Bigelows.
“As council will not have the benefit to review the entire application, Mr. Bigelow’s legal counsel has recommended the attached resolution that confirms that local approvals for the brewery have been granted,” Gray said.
Bigelow himself took to the podium to answer a number of business related questions, posed mainly by Councilmen Andy Penrose and Ron Hayes.
The questions pertained mainly to the business model the company has established.
Bigelow indicated that business hours would be primarily from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday with extended hours until 11 p.m. both Friday and Saturday.
“We are not planning to maintain bar hours,” Bigelow said.
Bigelow said that they are planning on having around five-taps serving differing microbrews for around $4.50.
Long term goals of the company include the possibility of bottling the different microbrews for retail.
Ramshackle Brewing Company reached its $200,000 crowdfunding goal after a rough start in early 2016 and will be the first 49-percent community-owned business in the state of Michigan when it opens.
Construction will soon begin between Olivia’s Chop House and the hardware store in Jonesville with plans for a grand opening ceremony when construction is complete.
